You could also post pictures of pre and post world war 2 Germany too. Were the German people worse off after 1945 when everything was destroyed in Germany or before 1939 when pictures would show a happy and prospering country? Of course some Germans (and some Syrians) had it fine during those regimes. But overall many people suffered. There's a 3rd picture in the series which is still missing. In the case of Germany the 3rd photo would show a Germany prospering after WWII. For Syria, the jury is still out. We may see a Syria prospering in the future, but I very much doubt that this is what's going to happen, no matter which side wins this war.

A Turkish win is definitely not a favourable outcome for Greece. But a win for Assad is not favourable to us either, and it's definitely not favourable to the Syrian people. They guy is a dictator, in case you didn't know it. Things are complicated in the area of course, and as bystanders we're always asked to give our opinion in a lose-lose situation. It's like asking someone would you like to be killed by a gun or by a knife? The final outcome will be the same in both cases.

Who says that the an Assad/Russia win is a favourable outcome for Greece? When was the last time Russia, in older or more recent times, did anything that would not benefit her first and foremost. It's just some idiotic Greeks from both sides of the spectrum (left and right) who for some stupid reason think that the Russians will come to save Greece from her misery. Have they seen the misery most of the Russian people live in? Also, what exactly are they expecting Russia to do for Greece? Pay her debt? This is not going to happen. It hasn't happened yet, and it won't happen ever. Tsipras already went to Putin and got fuck all from him. Quit kidding yourselves. Each country, and rightfully so, works for improving its situation without caring much for the common good or for the improvement of the situation in other countries.

I think Confucius is the only one who is confirmed as a historical character. The rest are dubious. Socrates may well be a historical character too. He didn't leave any works behind him but we know of him because of Plato and Xenophon (there may be other sources too...).

Not sure why Jesus is included in the same line as the other 3. We don't even know if Jesus really existed, and if he did the historical Jesus had really not much to do with the Jesus we know from the scriptures. Also, saying that they all lived at around the same time is a bit of a stretch. For example, Socrates and Confucius seem to have lived around 100 years apart. It's like saying that Voltaire and Bertrand Russel lived at about the same time (they lived roughly 100 years apart...). Saying this, there are many important philosophers who did live at about the same time. This doesn't really mean anything. For example Aristotle and Plato, 2 of the most influential philosophers of ancient Greek and European thought were contemporaries, as were more recently Voltaire and Russeau in the 1700s, and as were Russel and Godel in the 1900's, just to name a few. Every period has a number of influential philosopher who happen to live at around the same time. This is not a reason to write a book about it

It's anybody's guess how much tourism in the Aegean would be affected by a possible war between Turkey and Russia. Also, what makes you think that in a possible war between Turkey and Russia there would be no attacks in the western part of the country? If it's an all out war then it's most likely that most of the attacks will be happening in the western side of Turkey where most of their infrastructure is located. I'm pretty certain that we won't get there, but when you're dealing with 2 nutcases like Erdogan and Putin you can never be sure. As far as Greece's role in a possible war between Turkey and Russia. Firstly, as a NATO nation we may have to side with the Turks, secondly - and most importantly - Greece doesn't have the means to play the role of an aggressor in the area (be it against Turkey or against Russia) as we don't have the means (army personnel in terms of numbers or the firepower) to go against one of these 2 nations. We would be crashed within days if we'd try to do anything. Saying this, it's a scary thought that if it comes to this it's going to be people like Tsipras and Kamenos who will be the ones to make the decision to go (or not go) to war against Turkey or Russia. Dumb and dumber.

How are we involved?

I mentioned this in a different topic too. I just hope that the morons we have as a government won't drag Greece into this. Let Turkey and Russia figure this out on their own. They're big boys. I'm concerned that any escalation of the situation between Turkey and Russia won't only affect tourism in Turkey, but it will affect tourism in the whole area. A "war" between Turkey and Russia would be catastrophic for the whole area and as it is right now the money from tourism is the only thing that keeps Greece afloat. If we lose this too then we're done.

I just hope that Greece is not going to get involved in any of this shit. Knowing though that we have idiots governing us I wouldn't be surprised if they'd drag Greece into this too.

That's just Turkey's idiocy. I hope this is not going to escalate to anything more serious. If Greece would react the same way we would have brought down hundreds of Turkish planes over the past couple of decades.

Δεν το βρισκει κανεις παραξενο αυτο? Εχω φιλους στο Facebook που ανηκουν στα 2 ακρα αλλα φαινεται να ανεβαζουν στο Facebook τις ιδιες φωτογραφιες και τα ιδια αρθρα. Για καποιον που δεν ξερει ποιος ειναι ακροαριστερος και ποιος ακροδεξιος δεν υπαρχει περιπτωση να το καταλαβει απο αυτα που ανεβαζουν. Ειναι τα ιδια!

What happened today in Germany? Why did they cancel the game between Germany and Holland and evacuated the stadium? Did something happen? I can't find any details in the news.

Με τετοιο μπουρδελο κρατος κι οργανωση που εχουμε οσα λεφτα και να μας δωσουν δεν υπαρχει περιπτωση να μπορουμε να εγγυηθουμε οτι θα κρατησουμε τους προσφυγες μεσα στην Ελλαδα. Αλλα το ζητουμενο ειναι οι προσφυγες να μη μπουν στην Ευρωπη. Γι'αυτο ψαχνονται για συμφωνια με την Τουρκια. Επισης, ας πουμε οτι μας δινουν οι Ευρωπαιοι 1 δις το μηνα οπως λες. Θα ηθελες να γεμισει η Ελλαδα με στρατοπεδα συγκεντρωσης για προσφυγες σε ολα τα νησια? Θα το ηθελαν μηπως κι οι προσφυγες αυτο? Μαλλον οχι.

Not all refugees are terrorists. In fact, there may not be any terrorists between the refugees fleeing middle east. There are more "terrorists" already living in Europe and ready to be "activated" in short call. What's clear though is that all refugees are now seen in a different light after this attack, and that's unfortunate.

What happened in Paris is not an attack to France. Don't confuse things. It's an attack to the European/Western life style. An attack to the secular lifestyle we live in most of Western countries.

Οι Συριοι και λοιποι προσφυγες δεν εχουν κανενα ενδιαφερον να μεινουν στην Ελλαδα. Εαν οι βοριοι κλεισουν τα συνορα τοτε θα αρχισουν παλι οι "παρανομες" μεταναστευσεις, οπως τα παλια καλα χρονια. Απο την αλλη, επειδη εχω συγγενεις και φιλους στη Μυτιληνη. Το νησι εχει ξανανιωσει οικονομικα απο τοτε που αρχισαν να φτανουν οι προσφυγες, να νοικιαζουν σπιτια και δωματια, να αγοραζουν φαγητα κλπ. Μαζι με ολα τα προβληματα οι προσφυγες εφεραν οικονομικη ευημερια στο νησι. Ειναι μια ερμαφροδιτη κατασταση. Μπορει για τα τουριστικα νησια σαν την Κω οι προσφυγες να ειναι προβλημα αφου κανουν κακο στον τουρισμο, αλλά για μη τουριστικα νησια σαν τη Λεσβο οι προσφυγες εχουν μαλλον κανει καλο οικονομικα στο νησι. Το κακο για την Ελλαδα ειναι οτι δεν εχουμε εμεις τροπο να λυσουμε το προβλημα. Ειμαστε απλα στο λαθος μερος τη λαθος στιγμη. Η γεωπολιτικη θεση της Ελλαδας την κανει το πρωτο Ευρωπαικο κρατος στο οποιο μπαινουν οι προσφυγες απο τα ανατολικα. Δε μπορουμε να κανουμε κατι γι'αυτο. Ποια λυση προτειενεις εσυ δηλαδη? Να βαλουμε 5-6 πολεμικα να περιπολουν εξω απο τη Λεσβο, τη Σαμο και την Κω και να βυθιζουν οποιο σκαφος ερχεται απο Τουρκια?

This is not the time to start pointing the finger. Let the whole thing subside, identify the nutcases who orchestrated this and find real solutions to the problem. Fanaticism cannot win.

There's more to it. The ERT staff are also coming out to a strike asking for raises etc. We're ridiculous as people. I guess our German friend may be right when he says that Greece may need to be destroyed completely and rebuild from scratch.
