Why the debt program has become a fight of death between Germany and Greece

There is virtually nothing that Syriza or any other greek government could do now since that entire issue reached a point where no solution is possible anymore. As long Samaras ruled and followed orders it was just a feeling in the background but Syriza in the government brought something up that can´t be controlled anymore. Syriza demands compromise and that austerity ends. Something germany is not willing to give. Greece nazi remarks against germany didn´t help either. As Varoufarkis visited germany and meet Minister Schäuble...Varoufarkis needed exactly 5 words until he used the Nazi card.

Some guess the tsipras people expected that would lead to compromise but it did lead to the entire oppossite. The will to destroy greece is out now. Germany denies evry single greek proposal without even reading them. Greek officials are labelled "stupid", incompetent, idiotic, naive and laughable. Something that is unknown normally in diplomacy.

This entire conflict is not about reaching a solution anymore. Its about proving a point. Germany is willing to crush greece and break the € to prove its point. Chancellor Merkel has no room for compromise for greece simply because the large majority of germans demands that she stays hard in this issue.

The efforts done to compromise greek are gargantuan. Germany virtually uses its entire economic and political power to make sure greece fails and gets isolated. Whatever greece tries it gets openly pushed back. It got isolated in the entire EU and even on a global stage.

Varoufarkis was openly corrected from President Obama who basicly quoted what chancellor Merkel says. Whats even more amazing is that even Putin did withstand the wish to help out greece and break the EU sanctions against russia with this. No loans, no support in the sanction question and only a gas deal which greece is free to take.

It looks like wherever Tsipras or Varoufarkis go, chancellor Merkel contacted before and brought the host on line. Its an amazing display of power. If it is positive...well no comment.

Ife the cold teutonic german culture has something in common with greece than it it is to be very proud and stubborn.

What we have now is a situation germany and greece cant solve. It is simply impossible.

There are two opstions what can happen now:

1. we see a slow and agonazing death of greece and the syriza government combined, followed by a EU-commissary government

2. we see the collapse of Syriza, followed from a Samaras government and technocrats

3. a neutral 3rd party takes control over the conflict and brings both sides back at the table to find an agreement both can live with. A nation like the Vatican, Canada or Japan for example.

This conflict has grown as bitter as Argentina and UK over Falklands and that says alot.

I made a short summary about an article in the "Handelsblatt"

You overthink it.

There is no life or death fight. Germany has only little to lose and abit to gain from a GREXIT.

So for Germany the outcome is neutral if not even beneficial.

And in the longterm a failing of the Greek state could be beneficial for the Greeks as well.

It would provide a clean slate. A chance for a new beginning. If the Greeks are going to use that chance is a different question all together.

Nevertheless current modus of operation must come to an end.
