Volkswagen scandal

I will most definitely give you that

and i say this because i fully appreciate when staff of a company  feel betrayed and shocked and mortified even, with the betrayal that those that they placed all their loyalty too

believe me .... i have lived that ....and yes a much much much smaller company, but the "principles"are the same

the problem i have is that history has repeatedly ...well.... as the german newspaper speigel in one of their articles said ....

A country that wants to have a clear conscience must be able to just say "no" when it looks as though it can only achieve a goal it has set for itself with unethical behavior. Decency must remain a core German value. Failing to live up to one's own high standards and not even trying in the first place are two completely different things.

At some point, the image of the nasty German was replaced by the image of the faultless German. Both are extremes. A more realistic view of Germans is now starting to crystalize. Germany is neither any worse nor any better than other countries. It's a nation with great strengths and all kinds of weaknesses.

Ultimately, there's no place for German arrogance and no grounds for any German sense of superiority

and this obviously refers, more than anybody else, to their industrial and political leaders. the general populace, as a rule are wonderful people ...and i repeat .... general populace

Look, we are human beings. We have faults. We do mistakes and we often enough suffer from the "save face" sickness.

Its a common problem in germany to follow a certain path even if it has long be clear that it is a failed path. We can´t leave it, because we are too scared to admitt a mistake. We also often hav the tendency to look away when superiors do something bad. The reason is that we have a strict hiearachy culture. You don´t critisize superiors.

We have very high standards but we also have corruption. Its just a fact. In our banks and large corporations. Lobbyism is powerful in Berlin.

All what is bad about germany is condensed at the new Berlin Airport. That building is a massive failure and we get scandal after scandal.

All that is a side effect of Merkelism. I saw Merkel as ideal chancellor but my point of view changed in the last weeks.

Under her leadership germany became a worldpower. And the ruler of Europe. We stand better than ever. But are unhappy. What do we get from all those profits? Nothing. We have a large low income sector and wages raises very slow.

Merkel rules unquestioned like a queen and evry democratic process in germany has basicly fall asleep.

this came out today

Volkswagen’s latest admission suggests an entirely different kind of infraction, with an extra €2 billion price tag

Volkswagen has disclosed an entirely new front in its emissions scandal, suggesting that the company misstated carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions for at least 800,000 vehicles, in addition to the cheating on nitrogen dioxide tests that has affected millions more. The German auto giant said the cost of the newly disclosed infraction could reach €2 billion ($2.2 billion), on top of the $7.3 billion it has already set aside.

The new disclosure also includes non-diesel, gasoline-powered vehicles for the first time.

You should not forget the news that VW sales rise and that stock exchange goes up.

This is an economic battle between germany and USA and nothing else. Nothing of this is greek business.

Some bad decissions were made, so what. In a few weeks nobody will speak about it.

The eventual value of fines and lawsuits is unknown, making the German car company a risky proposition for investors

if the stock value has gone up  some 2.5% at last view is because of speculation in attempts to go in hoping on the "bottoming out and nothing left but up" psychology of certain investors

but in reality too early to tell any definite trend

and for you to throw in the "greek business" bit only makes to a bit of a dickhead

Ther are already counter meassures installed. Counterstrikes against american corporations, google for example is planned to be broken up in europe.

Its quite funny that useful idiots like eyoismus don´t see the goal behind those attacks.

Germany recently starts to break free from american tyranny. It doesn´t follow blindly anymore. What we see here is a classical american smoke screen.

That they target VW has a reason. VW is too big to fail and basicly a german state corporation. That way basicly no damage is done but the german tax payer is hit.

I don´t know how big your german hate is eyoismus, hopefully not big enough to suck american dick for it.

as usual you are smocking crack and dreaming up alternative universes

if you at least said that Europe was the battleground for American corporates , i could at least take you seriously

europe breaking up google would be like America demanding germany breaking VW  ...both laughable at best

and your last line again demonstrates how big a dickhead you really are, and cant see the forest from the trees

for example ... http://www.statista.com/statistics/249375/us-market-share-of-selected-automobile-manufacturers/

toyota has according to last stats, a 14-15 % share of US market. while the VW group is like 3-4 %

and above VW are honda, nissan, hyundai ...why the fuck would they, the US, waste their time with vw, when , assuming they want to protect "home grown" and go for the much bigger fish

and (rom another source)

U.S. sales of the Volkswagen brand fell 10% in 2014, despite a 5.9% gain in overall industry sales. For the first six months of 2015, Volkswagen brand sales fell 2.6%, compared to a 4.4% increase for the overall industry.

By contrast, U.S. sales for the Toyota brand rose 5.8% in 2014 and 5.2% for the first half of 2015

like said ... just an example ...but then we already know you live in an alternative reality

Hey eyoshitmus, why don´t you talk about the Renault news today? Renault tests show that their emissions are 21 times higher than allowed and Renaults seem to do the very same trick. What now? :)

As for the rest of your bullshit, yes we plan to break apart google:

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/nov/27/european-parliament-votes-yes-google-breakup-motion

of course you are just an old fart but what do i expect from some old demented middle easterner whose arms in his prime were thinner than those of a child.

Renault could be the next automaker embroiled in the diesel emissions scandal that has already engulfed Volkswagen. The allegations were put forward by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH), a green lobbying group, which claims that the Renault Espace emits up to 25 times the legal limit. Although the diesel minivan passed existing EU standards, DUH claims the testing allowed Renault to undergo testing at artificially low engine temperatures.

The study was reportedly published in cooperation with both the University of Applied Sciences in Bern, Switzerland, and the International Council on Clear Transportation. The latter is the same organization that commissioned the investigation into similar issues with Volkswagen's diesel engines. The Renault study was undertaken on an Espace van with a 1.6-liter diesel engine that, despite being Euro 6-certified, was found to emit up to 2.06 grams of NOx per kilometer, or more than 25 times the legal limit. That study has yet to be independently verified.

If the allegations prove to be true, Renault wouldn't be the first automaker caught out by such third-party testing. In the wake of the VW scandal, DUH issued a similar report alleging violations by the Zafira, a comparable minivan produced in Europe by General Motors subsidiary Opel. Along with other parties, DUH and the ICCT are calling on European officials to mandate stricter testing procedures that would close loopholes left open under current testing regulations. Such reported loopholes currently allow automakers to optimize the engines to run at artificially low temperatures, strip out standard equipment to reduce the vehicle's weight, tape up door joints, and fit bald tires with lower rolling resistance.

UPDATE: Renault issued this statement in response to the DUH's findings:

Renault disputes findings of German association Umwelthilfe on Espace emissions

As previously stated, Renault reiterates that Espace complies with applicable regulations, just as all its vehicles.

The test procedures used by the University of Bern are not all compliant with European regulations. The report shows important variations in test findings which are not conclusive and require "additional measurements".

Renault is endeavoring to fully understand the tests in detail especially in light of the findings published in August 2015 by the independent German institute ADAC which tested the Espace model and concluded that it complied with regulations.

so its seems to me ... certain germans are trying to to spread the witch-hunt, or at least throw mud in the water in order to wash or at least hide their own sins ...and my first reaction is  ... who is sponsoring DUH?

especially when ADAC, another German concern had cleared the Espace model

of course the whole thing is moot,, UNTIL , as the article suggested, independent verification is on paper

up to then ...i reserve the right to be suspicious especially when german whatever is involved ... and this based on history.

if anything this so called Renault that has suddenly been raised, like i suggested ...smells of "desperation" by certain parties or players ...yet to be determined .. and i mean the real ones, which oh so often hide behind the scenes

as for the bit about google break up ... you forgot to point out a very poignant fact , in the very same article you pointed out

The parliament has no direct power to break up Google in this manner and its calls to the EC have been seen as politicalisation of a regulatory issue.

in other words ...you are full of shit and wishful thinking ...i mean think about it logically .... googles advertising is what makes the search engine free, else how would the search engine generate revenues. breaking up is insanity and could only lead to "search for pay" scenarios .... nope buddy .... breaking up is not an option, but only rides on the back of wishful and with ulterior motives thinking ... motives that are still very unclear and vague

"restructuring", whatever that means ....uhm .... thats another issue

furthermore ... what does europe have to offer as an alternative .... that is free ... because the ones that i tried plainly suck

as for the rest of your rant .... hahahahahahaha ... your self confessed "save face" affliction just kicking as normal into overdrive

youth and stupidity go hand in hand

but dont worry ... been there, done that, seen the movie, and got the souvenir ...so wait ...and your turn will come ....eventually

and as always your last line proves how much of a dickhead you really are

nobody suggested that VW would go bankrupt. if anything all indications where that VW was in deep shit because of its "honesty"

and the fact that you insist of posting links written in german on a forum where nobody, pretty much, speaks german just makes you an ever bigger moron - its about the same level of stupidity of posting links in arabic when talking about the middle east issues - but then we already know what you are

VW announced today that internal research as well as tests performed by german ADAC and TÜV have proven, that the so called "emission scandal" is far smaller than previous thought. After all only 36.000 cars from one model line are affected.

The far the stock did rise over 6% today and it looks pretty good.

I believe all this was done from certain "groups" in the USA to attack german corporations and industrial core complex.

Meanwhile we tested GM over here and their cars produce 6 times more emissions than allowed...they only lower their emissions during testing scenarios...

on wall street journal today

Volkswagen Begins Recall of Diesel Cars in Europe

i guess they ARE still talking about it ... and by the wall street journal no less

Jan. 28, 2016 10:55 a.m. ET

BERLIN— Volkswagen AG began recalling millions of tainted diesel-powered vehicles in Europe this week, but seems no closer to a deal with U.S. environmental officials over how to fix affected cars owned by American consumers.

Kicking off one of the largest product recalls in the history of the automotive industry—a fix that by the end of the year will encompass nearly 11 million diesel-powered vehicles world-wide—the German car maker began asking European owners of its Amarok light pickup trucks to bring their vehicles to a local dealer for the repair.

The move is a response to the disclosure last year by U.S. environmental authorities that Volkswagen rigged some of its diesel engines to cheat on tests for toxic tailpipe emissions. Regulators are forcing Volkswagen to fix the vehicles to make them compliant with existing emissions regulations. The company also faces billions of dollars in potential fines and consumer litigation.

Germany’s federal motor vehicle agency, or KBA, must separately approve the fix for each model affected. Once the KBA gives approval, a fix applies to vehicles across the European Union, not just in Germany. The KBA approved the Amarok recall on Wednesday and is expected to give the green light for the two-liter Passat as soon as next week.

“We expect the recall of the Passat to begin in early February and then there will be a cascade of models,” a Volkswagen spokesman said. “We can’t do this all at once; we have to manage the workflow of the repair shops. It will keep us busy all year.”

While Volkswagen is beginning to fix vehicles in Europe, talks are continuing with the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, or CARB, over the recall of nearly 600,000 vehicles in the U.S.

Volkswagen says the repair of the vehicles in the U.S. is more complicated than fixing the same models in Europe because of different designs specific to each market.

The German auto maker has presented plans for installing a new catalytic converter in some U.S. diesel models, Chief Executive Matthias Müller said recently. But American authorities have yet to approve the plan. To encourage U.S. car owners to be patient while negotiations with regulators grind on, Volkswagen offered its U.S. customers a goodwill package worth more than $1,000 last year.

Volkswagen hasn't offered any compensation to European customers, angering European officials who want equal treatment for Volkswagen’s European customers. Volkswagen argues that it will fix the European vehicles faster and that the cash offer for American consumers is justified as a show of good will.

The fix in Europe is now under way and appears fairly simple. That is partly because U.S. restrictions on nitrogen oxides, which have been linked to fatal respiratory illnesses, are tougher than regulations in Europe.

The vehicles in the U.S. also use older emissions technology that cannot be fixed so easily. That is why Volkswagen wants to install a new catalytic converter in U.S. models. California environmental authorities rejected Volkswagen’s recall plan for the U.S. earlier this month, demanding more details on how the fix would affect the car’s performance, fuel economy, and emissions. The EPA supported CARB’s ruling.

Volkswagen said in December that its 1.2-liter and two-liter diesel engines could be fixed by updating the engine-control software, which will take about 30 minutes in the repair shop.

The fix for the 1.6-liter engine is more complicated. It, too, requires a software update to remove computer code that allows the vehicle to dupe emissions testers. But it also needs a hardware fix. Volkswagen said it must install what it calls a flow straightener tube, a kind of mesh screen that stabilizes air flow and allows the fuel-injection system to work more accurately. The repair will take about an hour.

Over the next few months in Europe, pending KBA approval, Volkswagen will begin recalling additional models, a company spokesman said. The recall of compact cars such as the Polo, which use a 1.2-liter engine, is expected to begin later this spring. By summer, Volkswagen expects to begin recalling cars that use its 1.6-liter TDI diesel engines, such as the Passat, Golf and Touran models.
