Stournaras: Varoufakis’s strategy cost Greece 86 billion euros

Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras took a swipe at former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis on Thursday, saying his negotiating strategy, or lack thereof, in 2015, cost Greece 86 billion euros.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Hellenic Observatory of the London School of Economics, Stournaras, also a former finance minister under New Democracy, took aim at Varoufakis in response to a claim made at the same event by the former general secretary of the Finance Ministry, Nikos Theocharakis, that Greece had conducted brave negotiations.

“[Theocharakis] failed though to admit that the ‘brave’ negotiations that he and Yanis Varoufakis led, which led to the change of the name of the troika to ‘institutions’ and removed the troika from the ministries to the Hilton, also had a cost,” he said.

“The cost of course was 86 billion euros: That was the third memorandum and the capital controls that have been imposed after 45 billion euros of deposit outflows,” he said, deriding Theocharakis’s claims as “partisan.”

That 86 bil is far too low. It leaves out the capital flight, the 50 bil plus we had to borrow from ELA, the flight of Greek companies to Bulgaria and other countries, the slaughter of domestic Greek bank stock holders, the plunder of municipalities and institutions, and what not.

But Varoufakis is not the only problem, he only implemented a plan that was crafted by Tsipras and the Syriza polit bureau. The whole of the Syriza crew and the polit class in Greece is utterly incompetent. The latest example:

Photo of the Day: Greek Health Minister Smoking (!)… Inside the Ministry of Health (!!) During Press Conference Goes Viral— And It’s World No Tobacco Day(!!!)

May 31st is World No Tobacco Day (WNTD), intended to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption around the globe. It was created by the World Health Organization back in 1987.

But today, a photograph that began circulating in Greek Twitterdom yesterday continues to go viral and is now spreading abroad, portraying Greece’s deputy Health Minister Pavlos Polakis firing up a cigarette INSIDE the Ministry of Health headquarters in what appears to be a press conference.

Numerous opposition politicians took to Twitter to slam the Syriza minister’s disregard for Greece’s anti-smoking laws which the alternate minister is supposed to be enforcing.

Numerous newspapers and blogs in Greece ridiculed the hypocrisy of a professional surgeon who heads up an important post in government blatantly flaunting a lit cigarette inside a government building— and the Ministry of Health nonetheless.

Varoufakis, Katrougalos, and all those lying Marxists became famous through venues like Papadakis, and Autias, and news shows like those.

Nobody knew who these morons were before these s, so called, reporters wanted to boost their ratings, began inviting them almost weakly, to say positive lies, to the people, to offer them false hope, to make grand promises.

Papadakis, particularly, on Antenna,, is a hypocrite. A leftist.

I remember him selling the so called vacation loans, <<τα περιβόητα διακοπο-δάνεια>>, putting gullible materialists all around Greece, further in debt, right before the crash.

Can't believe people living in the best vacation destination would want to spend money to go elsewhere - it is all part of the Greek psychology, of impressing the neighbor, and acting as if they are something the are not <<μαγγια κλανιά>>.

If Greeks to not rid themselves of this inferiority complex they will never stand no their feet, inside or outside the EU.

Has Papadakis and the rest of them, accepted a portion of the responsibility for Tsipras rise?

He denies it to this day.

Has he accepted the power of television to shape and direct public opinion?

In fact he is now selling the innocence of the voting public.

In Greece nobody is responsible, but some dark outside power. They do not even take responsibility for the people they raise and educate, and place in positions of power - blaming politicians as if they were born and raised in some other planet.

Modern Greek culture, with its good and bad, nurtured the very people now lying and destroying the country.

If they do not accept this, they can never hope to change it.

They will be blaming everyone else, except themselves - the forever innocent victims of world, of existence.

Legacy of Christianity and Marxism = the eternal innocent victims of nature. .

Yeah. You are making a valid point here. The same media figures who now attack Tsipras and co were the ones who boosted their image and lifted them on the big stage. Who could have known that putting a pack of anarcho lefty "κομματόσκυλα" in charge could have such an effect!
