In a coffee-shop in the area of Votsi (Salonica) in 1914 a group of friends consisting of Agorastos, Vlachopoulos, Nakopoulos, Aggelou, and Zegas (and in presence of few others) decided to institute a soccer club. The biggest problem that they were facing was what to name the new club. Some of them were defending teh fact that the name would have to do something with the city of Salonica, while others were mentioning different names.

It was though without a doubt that the creators of this new soccer club were influenced from the name of their opponent, Iraklis (Hercules - which was godly). They definitely thought that the name for their soccer club would need to have a godly name as well. There was only on god that could defeat Hercules and that would be Aris (god of war). Of course it did not mean that the two teams would go on a war of their own. That's shown in the team crest were Aris is portrayed in his godly prowess and not in a war-like stand.

With these roots the new club started and became one of the leading clubs in Salonica as well as one of the most respected clubs in the country. When the fans gave him the title of "Aristocrat" they did not miss by much. There was a period, where the players of the club were students and professionals.

Build on a solid foundation Aris started to win all the local championships and in the 1927-1928 season the club won their first Greek soccer championship. The same honor was also achieved in the 1931-1932 season. A side note here is that at that time Aris won the team of Panathinaikos with the scores of 7-0 and 7-2!

N. Katrantzos, Oplopios, Giakoumis, Kostas and Nikiforos Vikelidis, Katsaounis, Leontaridis, Zarres, Aggelakis, Mpogdanou, Ioannidis, Gkigkopoulos, Kosmatopoulos, Koloniaris, Kaltekis, Koumplis, Oikonomou, Kitsios, Argiriadis, Akritidis, and Danelian were the players which in the 1927-1932 period wrote Greek soccer history carved in golden letters!

In 1970 the Greek cup title was achieved by winning their long rival PAOK 1-0 in Kaftatzoglio in front of 50,000 fans. Keramidas was the scorer of this derby, in which he scored the goal in the 8th minute of the match.

Since the creation of the Greek Soccer Championship A' Division, Aris is always one of the "better" clubs although to-date it has not won a championship. The only thing that Aris has accomplished in the past and it is as honorable to them as wining the championship is that they had never lost from their rival PAOK in the period of 1962 through 1971.
